Solar film for heating swimming pool water through sunlight.

A solar pool cover offers a simple way to heat the water in your home pool or swimming pool using the sun. This economical method of water heating uses the sun´s heat. The solar energy warms the air trapped in the bubbles. This warm air then transfers its energy to the water, causing the water temperature to rise.

Important handling note

For a solar cover, it is important that the bubbles of the film float in the water. This means that the solar cover is always placed on the water surface with the bubbles facing down. It is also important that the solar cover floats and that as little water as possible remains on the solar cover. For the pool cover to float independently, it must always be slightly smaller than the water surface to be covered. This ensures that any water collected on the film flows back into the pool over the edge of the cover. If the film is too large, the water cannot flow back into the pool. The film is pushed underwater, the air in the bubbles hardly warms up, and the solar heating effect fails.

The specified size of the cover is the actual size. The size specification of the cover does not refer to the size specifications of pools. Therefore, measure the water surface of your pool to determine the required film size.

Durability and lifespan of a solar cover

A solar cover does not last forever, as it is constantly exposed to UV radiation, heat, chlorine, and algaecides during use. Therefore, a solar film is classified as a consumable material. With the thickness of the material, the durability also increases, but the film becomes stiffer and more unwieldy as the material thickness increases. We have therefore chosen a thickness of 300 my and, in our opinion, have selected the best ratio between acquisition cost, manageability, and lifespan.

It is important that the cover is only used to heat the water. It is not designed as a permanent pool cover. For a permanent pool cover, you should use a polyester cover, as it is more resistant. The solar cover should not be used at air temperatures above 35° Celsius, as the air in the bubbles heats up too much and the associated thermal expansion can damage the material and distort the cover´s shape.

If the solar cover is not in use, fold it dry and store it in a place without sunlight exposure.

If these points are observed, the solar cover will serve you well for the next 2 to 3 summers.
