A solar cover offers an easy way to warm the water in your home pool or swimming pool using the sun. This economical method of water heating uses the sun’s warmth. Solar energy heats the air trapped in the bubbles. The warm air then transfers its energy to the water and the water temperature rises.

With a solar cover, it is important that the bubbles of the film float in the water. This means the solar cover is always placed on the water surface with the bubbles facing down. It is also important that the solar cover floats and that as little water as possible remains on top of the cover. For the pool cover to float on its own, it must always be slightly smaller than the water surface to be covered. This ensures that any water collected on the film can drain back into the pool over the edge of the cover. If the film is too large, the water cannot drain back into the pool. The film is pushed under water, the air in the bubbles barely warms up, and the solar heating effect fails.

Using a solar cover gives you more than just warm water. By reducing water evaporation, lowering water contamination and thus saving on treatment products, and heating the water without electricity, you save a lot of money.

The specified cover size is the actual size. The size stated for the cover therefore does not refer to pool size specifications. Please measure your pool’s water surface to determine the required film size. 

Cutting our pool cover to size is easily possible with scissors. 

Durability

A solar cover does not last forever, as it is continuously exposed to UV radiation, heat, chlorine and algaecides during use. A solar cover should therefore be regarded as a consumable item. Greater material thickness increases durability; however, as thickness increases, the cover also becomes stiffer and more difficult to handle. We therefore chose a thickness of 300 my and, in our view, the best balance between purchase price, ease of handling and service life.

It is important that the cover is used only to heat the water. It is not designed as a permanent pool cover. For permanent pool coverage, you should use a polyester cover, as it is less sensitive. At air temperatures above 35° Celsius, the solar cover should no longer be used, as the air in the bubbles heats up too much and the associated thermal expansion can damage the material and cause the cover to warp out of shape. 

If the solar cover is not in use, fold it up dry and store it in a place out of direct sunlight.

If you observe the points listed above, the solar cover will serve you well for the next 2 to 3 summers.
